Wrexham have completed the signing of Josh Windass following the forward's departure from financially-troubled Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Windass confirmed he was leaving the Owls by mutual agreement, with the club under several embargoes having failed to pay wages on time for May and June.

The 31-year-old became available on a free transfer and completed a switch to the Stok Cae Ras ahead of the 2025-26 Championship season - signing a three-year deal.

On signing for Wrexham, Windass said: "I'm looking forward to getting going. I've spoken to the manager, who has showed me his plans for the season and what he expects from the group, and I've really bought into that.

"I'd describe myself as honest and hard-working, I like to contribute goals and assists from midfield and that's what I'm looking to bring to Wrexham.

"First and foremost, I want to get into the team and earn the respect of my team-mates – I want to be professional, be someone to look up to and then get the team as high up the league as possible."

Windass impressed for Wednesday in the Championship and League One, scoring 46 goals in 163 appearances.

Several clubs showed an interest in signing him, but Wrexham won the race as they have further bolstered their squad in preparation for their first season in English football's second tier for 43 years.

Having earned three successive promotions, Wrexham have been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward from Leicester, forward Ryan Hardie from Plymouth, left-back Liberato Cacace for a club-record fee from Empoli and Bolton Wanderers midfielder George Thomason.

Phil Parkinson said: "I'm delighted to welcome Josh to the club. He's a player with a lot of Championship experience and I'm looking forward to working with him over the coming seasons."
