The Tourist contains all the Kourtney Roy hallmarks: auto-portraiture, a filmic approach, her characteristic colour palette and a tension between the witty and the sinister, the conventional and the unorthodox, the glamour and the sleaze. ‘My (self-portrait) characters are often solitary, they like to drink alone,’ she says of this image. The Tourist by Kourtney Roy 2019-20 will be at Les Recontres d’Arles until 5 October. A book is also available.
