Atkin secures overall World Cup halfpipe title

Olympic bronze medallist Zoe Atkin finished her halfpipe season on a high with victory in the final event of the campaign to secure her first outright overall World Cup title.

The 23-year-old British freestyle skier had shared last season's crown with China's Li Fanghui but this time she made it her own with her second win of the season at the Park and Pipe finals in Switzerland.

She scored 86.75 in Silvaplana, beating New Zealand's Mischa Thomas, who scored 80.75 a,nd neutral athlete Aleksandra Glazkova, with 80.00.

The win meant Atkin finished on 360 points for the discipline, 70 clear of Australia's Indra Brown, who was sixth in Sunday's final.

Her victory came a day after Kirsty Muir became the first British woman to win World Cup titles in both freeski slopestyle and overall park and pipe.

It was also the day after Winter Olympic gold medallist Charlotte Bankes clinched the third World Cup title of her career in the snowboard cross.
